Dear Families,

Our students in grades 3-8 took the NYS ELA exams this week. It is our hope that the students’ test results will measure progress over time so you can see your child(ren)’s year-to-year performance. The results will also provide a deeper level of information indicating the skills which have been mastered by your child(ren) and skills that are developing.  We know the students worked hard to think critically and solve complex problems. I am extremely proud of the efforts they put in to demonstrate their understanding! Now onto Math ….

We are implementing an “Arithmetic April” challenge in our classrooms. Our teachers will be modifying the drop everything and read concept and will spend morning/afternoon minutes dedicated to math drills and review.  We encourage you to extend this challenge to your homes!  Please spend some time each evening reviewing math facts! We know that practice makes perfect and we will help to build the students’ stamina for their NYS Math exam!

Our students raised $830 for the Yonkers fire victims on Thursday! WOW! We are grateful for the support that was extended from our school community. It is our hope that every little bit helps towards easing the situations at home for those families. We will continue to keep them in our prayers throughout this difficult time.

On Thursday, I also had a meeting with two officers from YPD. They have been monitoring our parking, pick-up/drop-off situation over the last few weeks. They encouraged me to communicate again that after numerous warnings, if traffic violations persist, tickets will be issued. Please find a legal spot to park in at pick-up/drop-off and do not block the crosswalks. I appreciate your attention to this matter!

We are very excited for our Lip Sync event this evening! Huge thanks to our HSA coordinators and parents who have made this possible. We cannot wait to see the students perform!  Hope to see you all at 10AM mass on Sunday, we are recognizing our Girl Scout Troops!

Ladies’ Guild Palm Sunday Bake Sale:

Please mark your calendars and start your mixers!  The Annunciation Ladies Guild is hosting its annual Palm Sunday Bake Sale in the Annunciation School gym following the 5pm Mass on Saturday, April 13th and continuing throughout the morning of Sunday, April 14th. We also will be selling limited items at Fatima after the 9 am and 11 am masses.  We are in need of baked goods such as cakes, pies, cookies and cupcakes!  Our best sellers are the home cooked meals such as stromboli, chili, chicken pot pie and quiche!  We would like to offer gluten-free, nut-free and low-fat baked goods again this year. The class with the most donated baked goods wins a pizza party! Please be on the lookout for a volunteer form being sent out by the class moms via Sign Up Genius. Thanks for your support!
