June 24, 2020   Dear Families:                                       It is bittersweet to say “School’s Out for Summer”. This has been a very different ending to our school year. I want to thank you for your continued support throughout the distance learning period over the last 3 months. I know this was not an easy feat as we turned our homes into offices and classrooms. I hope you enjoy a much needed rest for summer vacation!            We have sent home class reading  assignments and our Math work for the summer.  The HSA graciously funded our summer workbooks again! Please, know that we want you to take a much needed break from school work.  However, this year more than ever, we need to work to avoid the summer slide.  Thus, we tailored the Math workbook to an abbreviated form from last year. Our teachers extracted problems from the book which we want the students to focus on, ones which we felt needed revisiting and practice with over the summer.   Cover sheets, detailing the problems for the students to complete were distributed at the book drop off/pick ups, they will also be housed in the ‘Archives’ section of the website, found under the Family Login.  We know the students will benefit from revisiting these concepts over the summer and it will help when we begin instruction in the fall.  We will have continued use of IXL over the summer. Students can use their current logins.  This useful tool allows students to practice grade-level Math and Reading strategies. The students should be participating in regular reading practice! “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr. Seuss

We have been having ongoing discussions in regards to our reopening plans.  We are awaiting guidance from the state, the Archdiocese of New York, and the CDC in regards to what this can look like. Know that we are crafting plans that are tailored for our population. We will distribute information as soon as it becomes available. Though we normally do not send out correspondences until mid-August, we will work to communicate with you, our families, throughout the summer and as updates become available.  We are hoping to share with you calendar information soon! We very much appreciate your patience and support as we work to navigate this new normal.

Our quarter 4 report cards will be released on July 2, 2020 at 12PM. You can access the parent portal just as you did for Quarter 3. Please use the password that you set up when you accessed for Quarter 3. Honors certificates will be mailed out hard-copy. For 8th grade students, transcripts will be sent to the high schools from our office.  Congratulations to our students on a job well-done in completing the fourth quarter course work.

We are so excited to announce that our Virtual Lip Sync Video is available. A very special thanks to Jessica Iannelli and Christina Canale for all of their work with putting this together. Also, the beautiful artwork for Lip Sync this year was created by Jessica Matuzak, Grade 5. We are so happy our students were able to participate in this virtual lip-sync experience.           We are very much looking forward to the 20-21 school year and to being back together with our students. Know we are here to support you throughout the summer. Wishing all of our families a blessed summer. Stay safe and well. We are so blessed to have you as part of our Annunciation family!
