May 8, 2024 Dear Annunciation Families: Restructure Information & Welcome –Mr. Hugh Keenan: As information was shared with you earlier this month, for the 2024-2025 school year, we are planning to restructure our administrative team to support progress and growth for Annunciation School. We warmly welcome Mr. Hugh Keenan, current principal, to our staff to assume the role of upper school principal (Grades 4-8). Mr. Keenan comes to us with a plethora of knowledge and experience in Catholic education and he will be an asset to our team. I will remain in my role as principal and will take over the lower school (Grades Pk3-Grade 3) and Mrs. Perich will remain as our assistant principal for grades Pk3-Grade 8. Together, our administrative team will be a force that will support our students, families, and faculty. We thank Fr. Grippo for allowing us the opportunity to pilot this innovative model and we will continue to be a pillar of Catholic education in Westchester. With the new model, we will be able to hone in on curriculum enhancements and instructional mapping that will help us to gain momentum in the classrooms and provide more personalized learning opportunities for our students. Our teachers go above and beyond the call of duty to support instruction in our classrooms each day. They nurture and love each one of our students as their own. We are so blessed to have our amazing teachers! Huge thanks to our HSA for helping us to celebrate our teachers each day this week in a special way! NYS Testing Makeups: Students in grades 3-8 who were absent during NYS testing will have the opportunity to do makeup tomorrow or Friday depending on date of return. MAP Testing: We will participate in our NWEA MAP testing next week. Ascension Thursday: Please join us for 10AM Mass on Thursday for our holy day of obligation celebrating Ascension Thursday. *Students should be in full uniform.* Letters from the Nurses’ Office: If you received letters from the nurses’ office indicating that your child has been checked for lice, it is because the school was notified of a case. It is essential that you monitor your child at home as well. When the initial scans are done, it is possible there is nothing present. In the event your child does have lice, please contact the school immediately. Proper treatment is required prior to your child returning to school. See the attached document for support. Mock Trial: Best of luck to our 7th and 8th grade students participating in tomorrow's mock trial. We know they will make represent Annunciation with distinction after many weeks of preparation. Science Fair - May 20, 2024 Our parents are invited to view the science fair projects on May 20, 2024 from 5P-6:15P May Crowning - May 21, 2024 Our 2nd grade students will participate in our tradition of May Crowning on May 21, 2024 at 1:30PM. HSA News: Thank you to HSA members Marisa Cammarata and Amy Lang for organizing an amazing Carnival last Friday. The Carnival has become a beloved event for our students, and our Co-chairs work tirelessly to pull it off. Thank you to all of our volunteers who gave of their time and a special shout out to our middle school students who are always willing to volunteer at events. And, as always, thank you to Mrs. Liberatori, Mrs. Perich, Mrs. Brown, and all of our teachers and staff who attended the Carnival to the delight of our students. A huge thank you to John Vielandi and the entire maintenance team for their hard work behind the scenes. Teacher Appreciation Week is in full swing! Make sure to thank a teacher if you see them! Dear Annunciation Families:
Today, we had the pleasure of attending Mass with Cardinal Dolan at Sacred Heart Grade school in Yonkers with our 8th graders. It was the beginning of the many celebrations ahead for our 8th grade students. This group in particular has earned so many achievements in their tenure here at Annunciation and we are so proud. We cannot wait to see what the future holds!
Dress Down Day–May 17th & May 31st:
Our alumni are doing great things! We are happy and proud to support 2 different alumni groups by hosting Dress Down Days. If the students wish to participate in these dress down days, they may adhere to the dress down uniform code in the handbook. They do not have to wear spiritwear on these 2 days. However, if any students desire to wear shorts, they MUST be AES gym shorts. No other shorts are permitted. Crocs and sandals are also NOT permitted.
Science Fair:
Our students have been working hard on their science fair projects. Parents are welcome to join us from 5P-6:15P, Monday, May 20, 2024.
Welcome Reception:
We are hosting a reception to welcome Mr. Hugh Keenan, AES Upper School Principal for 2024-2025. If your schedule allows, please consider attending the welcome reception that will be held on May 21, 2024 at 7PM in the Annunciation Gym. Please RSVP to Anna Caruso at the rectory!
NJHS Tutoring:
Thank you to everyone who has participated in the NJHS tutoring this year. We will conclude our tutoring sessions next week.
MAP Assessments:
Our students are participating in the ADNY Round III assessments. We will utilize the data from this round to make instructional decisions for the remainder of the school year.
May Crowning:
Please join us for the celebration of our May Crowning on May 21, 2024. This is truly a special day for our 2nd grade students.
Finals Schedule:
Attached is the finals schedule for our students in grades 6-8. We will also participate in the ADNY Religion final exam for grades 3-8 on May 30, 2024.
Accelerated Math Information for Qualification:
Students in Grade 5 will additionally participate in the ITBS exam.
Grade 6 students in at-level will be required to take a placement test for qualification if they meet the overall 90 average.
For students who are interested in participating in the accelerated track for next year in current grades 5 must meet the criteria to be accepted:
The ITBS will be administered on June 4, 2024.
The placement exam is optional and will be administered on June 17, 2024 at 3PM.

HSA News:
Our teachers felt our love and support last week. Thank you to all our families who made cards and sent well wishes to our deserving teachers. A big thank you to HSA member Christine Downs for organizing the schedule of events for our teachers for the week, and Mrs. Brown for always helping out.
Thank you to HSA member Kelly Brady (Literacy Specialist) for organizing an insightful Parent Workshop on Preventing the Summer Slide. Kelly’s presentation is attached to this week’s Weekly and we encourage you all to review it. Kelly’s presentation is the last of our Parent Workshops for this school year. Our speakers were particularly meaningful this year since they were mostly our own parents!! Please contact the HSA at hsa@annunciationcrestwood.com if you have an idea for a Parent Workshop for next year. We would love to continue our parent involvement in this area.

Friday, May 24th: AES Walk-A-Thon + Noon Dismissal:
Guess what time it is? It’s Walk-a-Thon time again, and we’re gearing up for our best one yet in 2024! With our DJ locked in, get ready for an extra fun morning! We kindly ask each family to rally behind us in reaching our goal of at least $100 donated per family, which can be easily done with $20 collected from five friends or family members. The top fundraiser will earn the title of Grand Marshal and lead our school for the Walk-a-thon. Special dress down day will be rewarded for individual students who raise $250 or more or a family that raises $400 or more. All funds raised will go towards exciting STEM equipment, creative maker space items, and curriculum upgrades. Please don’t forget to fill out and return the pledge form to school by May 22nd. Your enthusiastic support means the world to us! Our route will be the same as last year. We will again encourage parents to line the Walk-a-thon route to cheer on our students. Students will receive their Walk-a-thon shirts from school the week of May 20th.

High School Breakfast: On this day, we will recognize the high schools that our amazing 8th graders have chosen. The HSA sponsors a breakfast for our 8th graders and their teachers, and we will take fun group shots that will be shared out over our social media platforms. We are so incredibly proud of our graduating class and can’t wait to celebrate with them on this last day of May before their busy June begins!! 8th graders are encouraged to wear a sweatshirt/shirt from their chosen high school.
